Clos Laguiole et Le Thiers, corkscrews by Dozorme expose themselves in a sublime video signed HMWK

Resolutely turned towards the future but at the same time well anchored in his time, the cutlery Claude Dozorme knew how to intelligently take the turn of the digital and the video to highlight his universes and range of associated knives.

After having brilliantly revealed, last year, its range of outdoor pocket knives, in a video made by HMWK, the cutlery thiernoise recidivates this year.
For this new collaboration with HMWK, Claude Dozorme wanted to exhibit his range dedicated to the world of the cellar with a staging of his corkscrews Clos Laguiole and Le Thiers®.
It must be said that Claude Dozorme’s corkscrews are most inspiring.

Clos Laguiole and Le Thiers®, 2 iconic sommeliers

Sommelier Le Thiers® par Claude Dozorme

Entirely manufactured at the heart of the cutlery in Thiers, Clos Laguiole and Le Thiers® are two very high precision’s corkscrews.

The family cutlery is part of the two emblematic French forms that are the shape of Laguiole and that of Le Thiers® to design these essential everyday tools that combine corkscrew, bottle opener and capsule cutter. The Dozorme sommeliers are also equipped with a conical drill specially designed in a high-quality steel guaranteeing a perfect opening of the bottles (even the oldest) without damaging or breaking the plugs.

Very appreciated by connoisseurs of wine, sommeliers Dozorme dress up in their finery. We can find handles in precious wood or horn, all-carbon versions and even a special collection “France” with blue-white-red scales.

It is therefore through the sommeliers, that the audiovisual production company HMWK wanted to enhance the range “cellar” Claude Dozorme. Under the expert eye of Blanche, the director of the clip, they take here their full dimension.
Subtlety, as usual, Blanche chose to parallel the work of the winemaker and that of the cutler. For 2 minutes, we become the privileged witnesses of the slow path necessary for the creation of a cuvée and a product stamped Dozorme. It shows the importance of the hands and the materials, the precision and the rigor required as well as the passion screwed to the body.
And the result is most captivating. We let ourselves be carried away by these images with a licked aesthetic and by this almost off-the-wall voice that tells you a story of men and passion.
A very beautiful artistic feat the fruit of the collaboration of a centennial family business and a start-up settled in Clermont-Ferrand!

Restitution of the first works of Charlotte Charbonnel, in residence at Claude Dozorme

Last Thursday, June 20, 2019, Charlotte Charbonnel, the Parisian artist in residence at Claude Dozorme since the beginning of the year, has unveiled its first creative tracks, fruit of its working sessions within the cutlery. A first release pending full exposure from its work on metals, scheduled for June 2020.

Charlotte Charbonnel et Claudine Dozorme

Named Nucleus and installed in the Cave of the contemporary art center “Le Creux de l’enfer”, this installation features multiple arrows made from skeletons of damask metal, with the help of the employees of the Thiers factory. Installation imprinted dioramas of the nineteenth century (reproduction of scenes of wildlife), it illustrates a life-size hunting scene. Stuck in the rock or suspended arrows, objects at once precious and almost primitive, encamp the astonishing and archaic image of a suspended attack, stopped in its tracks.

Using the complex technique of Damascus, Charlotte Charbonnel has also tested several assembly, cutting and revelation experiments. These experiments are to be admired in his work Fulgure, also exhibited in the Cave.

They were very generous to her and were able to meet all her technical expectations. Charlotte Charbonnel in residence at Claude Dozorme

Since February 14, 2019, the Claude Dozorme cutlery welcomes the artist Charlotte Charbonnel.

This project is part of the program “Residences en entreprise” set up by the Ministry of Culture in 2014 and led by the DRAC (Regional Directorates of cultural affairs). Today, 15 residences are spreading throughout France, including 3 in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, whose vocation is to bring together cultural structures, artists and companies.
In Thiers in Puy-de-Dôme, it was under the impetus of Michel Prosic, former sub-prefect of Thiers and current Regional Director of the DRAC, that this project was initiated between Charlotte Charbonnel, the cutlery Claude Dozorme and Le Creux de l’enfer, contemporary art center.

A residence initiated by Le Creux de l’enfer

It is in the heart of the Vallée des Usines, along the Durolle, that is the center of contemporary art, Le Creux de l’enfer led since 8 March by Sophie Auger-Grappin. She was immediately interested in the artist residency project which meets the many objectives she has set for herself: to enhance the socio-economic fabric of the area, to combine contemporary art and craftsmanship, technical skills and scientific knowledge, and finally, have the site recognized at a national level.

The meeting with Claudine Dozorme immediately reinforced her choice of residence within the cutlery “Claudine immediately expressed her interest in welcoming Charlotte Charbonnel while leaving her free from her movements and her actions. We must indeed be able to trust the artist, that he can develop his own work without being instrumentalized. For the artist, it was necessary to find someone open, curious and able to work in collaboration because for a residence to work, it is necessary that the 2 parts are in the dialogue, that they communicate. With Charlotte Charbonnel, protean artist very cultivated and very curious, the project was announced under the best auspices”.

Cutlery, a new field of experimentation for Charlotte Charbonnel

For this first residence in business, Charlotte Charbonnel leaves her comfort zone. Accustomed to creating a work from an idea, she makes the opposite way to her creative process.

It starts from the cutler know-how specific to Dozorme manufacture and confronts machines and men to build its project. “Every time I visit, every worker takes time to explain the different materials and manufacturing steps. There is a real exchange, it’s very motivating. Alongside Jérôme Ollier, one of the workshop workers, I was able to experiment with stamping technics. He showed me the gestures and guided me on my first manipulations. He lives knife, breathes knife, it’s an integral part of his DNA. He does not even realize the gold he has in his hands.”

A cohabitation that makes sense

Cutlery employees are therefore privileged witnesses of a creative process that takes a fresh look at their own activity and must contribute to changing their perception of the art world.

A wonderful opportunity for Dozorme cutlery, as Claudine Dozorme points out, “our factory must be disconnected from its economic contingencies. It must refocus on the human aspect. To be there to promote beautiful encounters, promote a know-how and federate employees around an ambitious artistic project “.
A beautiful way to bring contemporary art into the often very compartmentalized world of business.

On June 20, 2019, Charlotte Charbonnel will present her first creative tracks at Creux de l’enfer.

Who is Charlotte Charbonnel?

At just 39, Charlotte Charbonnel is an unclassifiable artist. At the same time visual artist, painter, sculptor but also designer, scenographer, soundman, researcher or even alchemist, this graduate of the Beaux-Arts of Tours and the Decorative Arts of Paris, does not stop wanting to weave invisible links that unite the elementary matters. Her work derives from empirical research with multiple inputs: listening and capturing materials or natural phenomena, exploring the different states of matter, meticulous observation of elusive substances … She thus finds in undecided fluids, capricious waves, clouds, fumes, or other hazy forms, an unlimited field of experimentation. For this urban artist who lives and works in Paris, Nature invariably remains her greatest source of inspiration. She draws her energy and creativity without limit in the service of her works.

Le Thiers® and le Laguiole in a video signed HMWK

Baroudeur Laguiole - Couteau outdoor DozormeSince 1902, Claude Dozorme sublimates an ever more daring cutlery. Derived from ancestral know-how, modernized and jostled, the creations of the Manufacture, entirely created and handcrafted in France, are resolutely turned towards the future and technical innovation. This is particularly the case for its range of outdoor knives: Liner lock Le Thiers® and Le Baroudeur Laguiole. Faithful partners of hikers and open spaces lovers, these 2 knives have been specially designed to meet all expectations and all needs.

Liner lock Le Thiers® - Couteau outdoor Dozorme

Today, to increase the value of its pocket knives among the youngest, the family-owned company wanted to stage them through a small film orchestrated by a young start-up from Clermont, HMWK :

For Claudine Dozorme, manager of cutlery, the idea was to draw a parallel between Dozome’s cutlery know-how and the innovative nature of the knives to stick to the brand’s “modernized tradition” brand.
For HMWK, there was no question of communicating raw and obvious on the knives but rather turning to a more subtle presentation that would value the values of manufacturing: quality, sharing and trust.
Blanche, one of the managers of the audiovisual company and director, explains the creative principle: « During this project, we wanted to anchor the brand on a territory, in a past and in values. Thus the knife appeared to us as the extension of the arm, the tool that makes sense, that ensures, the one that we have in all circumstances, even the most atypical. Climbing naturally seemed to us to be the ideal subject for moving the “product message”, while keeping the ideas defended through the Claude Dozorme knives. It was for us the possibility to avoid some common places to highlight the use and the user of the knives Claude Dozorme. ».

The result ? A bluffing clip to the aesthetics of more neat mixing indoor and outdoor images shot between manufacturing workshop in Thiers and Sancy.
The brand Claude Dozorme? More than ever in the air!

Le Thiers® by Thomas Bastide

Faithful to its core principle, the fusion of creation and innovation, the Dozorme firm regularly joins forces with famous personalities or wellknown designers.

This is the case of Thomas Bastide, famous designer for Baccarat among others, who imagined for the family cutlery two magnificent creations based on the Le Thiers® knife: L’Âme and Le Shadow.

Le Shadow by Thomas Bastide

Le Shadow by Thomas Bastide

Le Shadow by Thomas Bastide

Unusual and atypical, Le Shadow is the first table knife with an asymmetrical and angled handle. This angled handle holds the blade above the tablecloth. An original object of both the most aesthetic and ultra practical ! Moreover, its thicker handle on one side than on the other makes its excessive gripping pleasant and totally ambidextrous. Not to mention that its very high-end steel gives it a smooth edge allowing easy resharpening.

Le Shadow is acclaimed by the great names of the french cuisine and proudly adorns the most beautiful tables like those of the star chef and best worker of France, Jacques Decoret in his restaurant eponymous located in Vichy.

L’Âme by Thomas Bastide

L’Âme by Thomas Bastide

L’Âme by Thomas Bastide

For Thomas Bastide, the soul of a knife lies in his blade. Starting from this postulate, he magnifieded this blade by undressing it from one side of the knife. Thus naked, the blade reveals itself in splendor and sobriety and plays its appearances with its asymmetrical handle which allows it to hold in balance on the right side and thus does not touch the tablecoth.

Who is Thomas Bastide ?

portrait-thomas-bastide-dozormeBorn in 1954 in Biarritz, Thomas Bastide lives and grows in Paris where he joins the Higher School of Graphic Arts (Penninghen) before heading towards industrial design at the National School of Applied Arts and crafts. Creator of Baccarat since 1981, his talent and passion lead him to work for other great names of luxury: Hennessy, Christofe, Ercuis, Odiot, Hermes and many others.

For his first collaboration with the french cutlery Claude Dozorme, Thomas Bastide has allowed his heart and creativity to speak by proposing L’Âme and Le Shadow, two sumptuous original and subtle creations. Lately, the designer has imagined a brand new range of kitchen knives called Flat Cut which we will talk about soon…
